Contest a ticket

If you would like to contest a parking ticket, you will need to make a court appearance.  For detailed instructions, refer to Appearing in Court.

Default court action

If you fail to appear in court and enter a plea, or fail to pay the fine within 14 calendar days, the Municipal Court shall enter an order and judgment of Guilty by Default against the defendant in favor of the City of Salem.

Failure to appear or pay the fine imposed may result in your case being referred to a collection agency.  If your case is referred to a collection agency, pursuant to Oregon Revised Statute (ORS) 697.105, a fee of up to 25% of the unpaid case balance will be added to your principal balance for any and all collection fees, charges, and interest due. The unpaid balance may also be reported to credit rating agencies.

The Municipal Court is the Judicial Branch of City of Salem Government. The Municipal Court judges misdemeanor, violation, and parking cases arising from municipal ordinances, state statutes, and miscellaneous matters as provided by ordinance.
