Attendance and Reporting
It is the community service worker’s responsibility to arrive at the appropriate work site at the correct time and on the dates agreed upon. Leaving the job site early without permission or previous approval will be treated as a no show / no call, and work credit will not be given for that day. If you are not dressed appropriately and prepared to work a full shift when you report, you will be asked to return the next day prepared to work.
Community service workers are expected to conduct themselves as though they are Public Works Department employees. They are to do their work in a timely and efficient manner, taking breaks and lunch at the proper time. After being warned, if adequate effort is not exerted, workers may be asked to leave the job site, and no credit will be given for the day. Workers may not be allowed to return in the future to perform community service.
It is the responsibility of the community service worker to report for work in appropriate clothing as described in the dress code. Workers dressed inappropriately will not be permitted to work.
It is the community service worker’s responsibility to make sure that time worked each day is documented at the end of each work day. Sign on the correct time sheet for your court. No time recorded is the same as not working.
Drugs and Alcohol
Under no circumstances is any community service worker to consume alcohol or be under the influence of any illegal substance while working for the Public Works Department.
This position is physically demanding. You may be expected to lift up to 50 pounds and stoop and bend all day long.
Smoking is permitted during lunch and breaks only, and is only permitted in designated areas. Smoking is not permitted in City vehicles.
Cell phones may be used during lunch and break times only.
If injured on the job, you must report the accident immediately to a Parks staff person.
